DNA Detectives in Science

The Key Stage 4 pupils at Newcastle Bridges School have been getting hands-on with science by carrying out fascinating DNA extraction experiment using strawberries.
The pupils mashed up strawberries before adding washing-up liquid to break down the cell membranes. They then added salt and ethanol, allowing them to see DNA strands separate from the strawberry cells.
The experiment was a huge success, giving pupils the opportunity to explore genetics and understand the science behind DNA extraction through practical investigation.
Well done to everyone involved for their excellent scientific work.
