Ferndene has been planning for this since before the summer, and the day finally arrived. The literacy event with popular author Nadia Shireen, writer and illustrator of the Grimwood Series met with them.

They asked her: "if you could het a famous actor to play or voice your characters, who would you pick and why?"

Nadia kindly told us that in her audiobooks, Grimwood had the voice of English comedian Michael Adam Buxton who did an incredible job and therefore she would use him in a film or TV version too.

She also gave them support in creating illustrations for their stories, explaining why she made the choices she made, however regretted giving one of her characters 14 legs as it proved difficult for how much they featured. They felt inspired, got creative, and wrote stories about a nervous French Bulldog named Poppy, a delightful deer named Dolly and a mischievous little mouse to name a few.

Here's a sample below.

The nervous French Bulldog ran through the sliding French doors. Unfortunately, nobody knew what Poppy was running from in such a fright. Poppy was the quickest French Bulldog in the village, but sadly, she was afraid of the dark.

The lounge that she entered appeared to have dark shadows creeping from the corners of the oversized room, like secrets were trying to escape from everywhere. Poppy spotted the giant shadow slowly emerging from behind the hard-backed sofa. It was not there when she entered the room, but was getting closer...and closer!
