Year 11 pupils recently took part in a practical science lesson investigating the structure of plant cells using onion tissue, dye and microscopes.

During the experiment, pupils carefully prepared microscope slides by taking a thin layer of onion skin and adding a stain to highlight the cell structures. The hands-on lesson allowed pupils to develop their microscopy skills while gaining a better understanding of cell biology.

By carrying out the investigation themselves, pupils were able to see first-hand how plant cells are organised and how scientists use staining techniques to make important structures visible.
