Lots of people around the world will be celebrating Diwali, which falls on Monday, 20th October this year. It's also known as the Festival of Lights and lasts for five days, with Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains observing it.

To take part in the celebrations, the young people in Ferndene participated in creative workshops delivered by Pui Lee from the Gem Arts Centre. Pui explained to the pupils that traditionally, families decorate their homes with colourful lanterns and lights to celebrate Diwali, and it is the festival of new beginnings.

The festival always falls sometime between October and November, but the exact date varies each year, as the Hindu calendar is based on the moon.
